job description - Senior Procurement Officer


Duties include but will not be limited to:

  • Manage delivery of compliant, efficient, and cost-effective procurement process to procure best value goods and services:
  • Ensure efficient and optimised contract management and administration processes:
  • Compile and issue tender documents
  • Evaluate tenders, write summary of facts and compile recommendation for award of contracts
  • Review and approve motivations for contracts
  • Ensure assessment of supplier capability prior to awarding contracts
  • Oversee contract negotiations, awarding process and make suitable recommendations as well as to negotiate, draft and maintain contracts with strategic suppliers
  • Ensure resolution of contract management issues
  • Oversee contract maintenance and annual price escalation reviews
  • Ensure compliant Vendor management and administration processes:
  • Manage vendors within legal compliance and business risk framework
  • Ensure resolution of Vendor management issues
  • Ensure completeness of vendor files and new applications approved timeously, including maintenance of vendor records, approval of banking detail changes, updating of B-BBEE status and site safety documents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • B.Com or relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Computer literacy with a high degree of proficiency in MS Excel.
  • At least 8 years’ experience in a similar senior role.
  • Knowledge of the specific regulations and laws governing the fishing industry in South Africa, including fishing permits, quotas, and sustainability measures are an advantage
  • Understanding of supply chain processes in the fishing industry context, preferable.
  • Knowledge of quality control and assurance processes to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Understanding of supply chain risks and strategies to mitigate potential disruptions in the procurement process.
  • Communication skills, including ability to communicate on strategic, operational and task execution levels.
  • Good verbal and written skills in English and Afrikaans
  • Good understanding of key business processes and practices.
  • Demonstrates influencing skills.
  • Analytical and good problem – solving ability; Good numeric ability.
  • Accurate with strong attention to detail; Methodical and meticulous.
  • Ability to function independently and under pressure; Ability to filter information and assess priorities.
  • Articulate and assertive; Professional, credible and highly motivated.
