job description - Electrical Engineer - Studies

Our client, a leading EPC, currently busy growing their Renewables team, has a current opportunity for an Electrical Engineer - Studies on a permanent basis. The position will be based in Midrand.

Requirements

  •  Assistance with producing the following system studies reports:
    •  Grid integration
    •  Grid code compliance o Protection grading and settings
    •  Dynamic studies.
  •  As you increase your skills and experience, your role will expand accordingly.
  •  Assisting internal and external specialists with data gathering and report compilation.
  •  Interfacing with clients.
  •  On certain projects this role will include being the project manager. The project manager is responsible for the project's budget, schedule, and safety as well as contract management. This will include the management of subcontractors where applicable. This will be limited to purely engineering projects.

Qualifications/Experience

Minimum Requirement:

  •  B. Eng or M. Eng in electrical engineering.
  •  ECSA registered PR. Eng or candidate engineer is an advantage.
  •  Minimum 5 years' experience.
  •  Experience in at least one of the following sectors (in order of preference): renewables, transmission & distribution, power generation, mining, and petrochemical.

Experience in one or more of the following fields will be advantageous

  •  Power system simulation in a package like DIgSILENT PowerFactory or ETAP.
  •  Writing software for engineering and scientific simulations and understanding of the numerical methods underpinning the simulation.
  •  Techno-economic evaluations of hybrid microgrids or renewable energy projects using HOMER Pro, HOMER Grid, or SAM.
  •  Financial evaluation of projects based on financial metrics such as IRR, NPV, LCOE, payback period, etc.
  •  Protection grading.
  •  Lightning Protection risk assessment as per SANS/IEC 62305-2.
  •  Earth grid design.
