Farm ManagerEZ-Farming

The farm manager will be responsible for the daily planning, organisation, supervision and administration of activities on various farms at the farm estate. With active listening and effective communication skills, the farm manager will work closely with the smallholder farmers and youth interns participating in the USAID/Nigeria COVID-19 Food Security Challenge project to ensure successful farm outcomes.

Requirements:

• A strong believer in Nigeria with a passion for excellence.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Management, Environmental Sciences, Soil Science or related agricultural degree.

· At least 3-year of farm management experience in rice, maize or cassava production.

· A passion for agriculture with excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

· Ability to make good decisions under pressure and work effectively with smallholder farmers.

· Excellent communication (Yoruba & Pidgin English), organizational and interpersonal skills.

· Readiness to work overtime as required.

Responsibilities:

· Training, monitoring, and supporting smallholder farmers throughout the production cycles.

· Ensuring that all participating farmers are properly following the improved agronomic practices as trained

· Deciding on the quality and quantity of the crops to be planted

· Developing and implementing farm budgets, and accomplishing the farm activity goals within the planned budget

· Arranging for regular maintenance of field equipment, machinery, and farm buildings

· Monitoring the purchase and use of farm supplies like agrochemicals and seeds

· Effectively implementing crop calendars and meeting the sales deadlines

· Setting and monitoring crop yield targets

· Monitoring the quality and quantity of crops harvested

· Updating knowledge on plant diseases and taking necessary measures for treating the same

· Preserving environmental biodiversity and undertaking protection activities if need be

· Keeping a track of the health and safety of farmers, youth interns, laborers, and other staff on the farm.

· Preparing plans for the mode of harvest, harvesting schedules, and collaborating with the other farm managers for carrying out these activities.

· Ensuring accurate field data collection and record-keeping.

· Ensuring all farm inputs like seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are restocked on time.

· Collaborating with the Finance and Administration Unit for budgets and financial report preparation.
